Combobox

Searchable select, for lists too long to scroll. Focus stays in the text field and the highlighted option is announced through aria-activedescendant; a hidden input carries the value, so free text is never submitted.

Long list, and with a placeholder

Type to filter — accents are ignored, so "zurich" finds "Zürich". ↓ ↑ highlight, Enter picks, Escape closes and, pressed again, clears. Text that is not an option reverts to the previous selection when you leave the field.
